altGeorge FM's Newest DJs Win Major International DJ Mix Competition

2010 is set to be a gigantic year for George FM's freshest DJ recruits, sister duo Maya and Vanya. On top of scoring their own weekly George show, 'Chaga Time', Tuesdays 8-10pm, they have just won a prestigious international DJ mix competition which will see them winging their way to Miami for a showcase gig, a cover story in DJ Mag, two Pioneer CDJ 2000s and an international DJ management contract - basically kickstarting their DJ career for the next decade. Boom.

The competition was first voted on by 350,000 users of the site www.letsmix.com and then a panel of judges including the head of music download site Beatport, editor of DJ Mag, Marketing manager of Pioneer DJ, superstar DJ Deadmau5's manager and DJ Sebastien Ingrosso waded through the finalists. Result - Maya Vanya first! Here's what the judges had to say: "Maya Vanya are intriguing in a 'what's next?' way. A Croatian sister duo residing in New Zealand, they are purveyors of global club music and serve up the most unique party starting sounds around in 'Next Generation DJ'. The sisters have proven themselves by mixing their own masterfully laid out edits, spanning three decades of tropical music fun, with a big room friendly tech house sound ready for next generation dancefloors everywhere."

High praise! More details on the competition results can be found here: www.letsmix.com/ngdj

Says George PD Ande Macpherson: "We enjoy cultivating new talent here at George, and it's great to see two of our freshest show hosts being recognized internationally. We're looking forward to hearing them on George for a long time to come."

Growing up in Croatia before a move to New Zealand, the duo have been steadily forging a name for themselves in the Australasian dance scene. From being Saturday residents at hip club Cassette Number Nine, to playing everywhere from Rhythm and Vines Festival to mini Aussie tours, the world is now their oyster. Be sure to catch them live on the air on George FM before they get too world famous for us!

Chaga Time with Maya and Vanya, Tuesdays 8-10pm, George FM, 96.8FM Auckland, streaming live at www.georgefm.co.nz
